Silo
Silo
"Silo" is a drama series inspired by Hugh Howey’s dystopian trilogy, starring Rebecca Ferguson, written by Graham Yost, directed by Morten Tyldum, and produced by Apple Studios.Set in a dystopian future, the series follows an underground community controlled by strict, unexplained rules.
The protagonists work to discover the truth behind their society.Resource scarcity requires all materials to be repurposed. Costumes are designed to appear timeless and enigmatic, while distinguishing each character. The Silo’s inhabitants are divided into three groups, with costumes reflecting social hierarchy: "Down-Deepers" wear distressed workwear, "Mids" wear patched, eclectic garments, and "Up-Toppers" wear robes in cooler tones.
In Silo 18, the erasure of historical records limits knowledge of the past and hinders progress, resulting in a visual mix of contemporary and retro design elements. In contrast, Silo 17’s inhabitants have access to historical records and literature, which encourages greater progress and creativity.
The main goal was to design authentic costumes that create a distinctive visual language for the Silo, supporting both narrative and character development. Collaboration with directors and department heads produced a coherent yet disquieting world that blends contemporary and retro styles. Most costumes were custom-made, while others were sourced or rented, then dyed and aged as needed.
The cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Robbins, Common, Harriet Walter, Steve Zahn, and Chinaza Uche. The third season introduces Ashley Zukerman, Jessica Henwick, Laura Innes, Jessica Brown Findlay, Matt Craven, and Colin Hanks."Silo" is produced by Apple Studios, with executive producers Graham Yost, Michael Dinner, Nina Jack, and Joanna Thapa.
